Akira Bike for Katsuhiro Otomo GENGATEN Exhibition

Fans of the Katsuhiro Otomo manga series Akira, should be able to immediately recognize the spectacular signature motorcycle ridden by its titular character. Until now, the highly customized fictitious bike has never seen a real-life counterpart. For the paltry sum of around $120,000 USD, the bike was meticulously re-created by Shinji Tejima and his design house Showa Studio over the course of seven years. As part of the new Katsuhiro Otomo GENGA Exhibition in Tokyo, you can check out (and even sit on) the bike, along with 2125 pieces of original drawings from the manga series. Proceeds from the exhibition which will take place till May 30 will be donated to reconstruction efforts in the Tohoku region effected by last year’s earthquake and tsunami.

KERA Magazine is a popular Japanese punk fashion magazine. Originally known as KERAOUAC Magazine, the name has become synonymous in recent years with the rise in punk, Lolita, and gothic fashion trends in both Japan and international communities.

The first issue of KERA was circulated in October of 1998 with a strong focus on punk fashion and current trends in rock music. The magazine was among the first to include a section with photographs of the street fashion in Harajuku with Harajuku Street Snaps. The street snaps section also covered fashion on the streets of London, Berlin, New York, and other districts of Tokyo. While at first a bimonthly publication, KERA has since become a monthly magazine with a circulation well over 120,000.
